Pierre Elliott Trudeau was Prime Minister of Canada between 1968 and 1984. Before that he was a public intellectual mainly in Quebec where he was born in 1919. He was a provocative writer and activist who turned his hand to parliamentary politics in 1965 when he ran for a seat in Parliament in Montreal. He is famous for pioneering and then delivering the Charter of Rights and Freedoms in the new constitution of 1982. Mainly we will examine the presuppositions of his thought because he took seriously the unity of theory and practice.
