Richard A. N. Bonnycastle

Business Leader, Philanthropist, UWinnipeg Supporter

Celebrating community learning

A Canadian businessman who is the former owner and publisher of Harlequin Enterprises and an owner of Thoroughbred racehorses, Richard (Dick) A. N. Bonnycastle has long shared The University of Winnipeg’s vision of a vibrant and accessible academic life on campus.

In 1969, he and his mother, Mary Bonnycastle, established the Bonnycastle Lecture Series in memory of their father, husband, and the University’s first Chancellor, Richard H. G. Bonnycastle. The lectures, which are free and open to the public, promote dialogue on an area of special interest to Mr. Bonnycastle: the economic, social, and cultural life of cities.

Additionally, Bonnycastle is a generous supporter of UWinnipeg’s Oral History Centre and the President’s Innovative Projects Fund, which fosters innovation in academics, student services, and community.

Now residing in Calgary, Bonnycastle generously supports various charities across Winnipeg, most notably St. Boniface Hospital and The Royal Manitoba Theatre Centre.
